Web Portal design for Lafayette School Corporation

Lafayette School Corporation’s (LSC) websites were unattractive and hard to manage. The customer wanted a single website infrastructure that all schools could use as a basis for their sites.  Webmasters and site administrators were sharing FTP access to the websites and it was causing a nightmare for the server administrators. They wanted to illuminate the need of having people use commercial software to manage their sites, and progress toward a more managed solution. In order to help the schools staff and administrators a new system was required.

THE PROCESS

After contacting Sciberus, Lafayette schools staff worked with project managers to design a new system that would address their needs. The goal was to develop a website that can be used as a template by the schools and allow administrators to have control over the site and users in the database.   Throughout the consultation process, several ideas were exchanged, and the staff at LSC decided that they also wanted to implement a central calendar system for all events within the school system.

THE RESULT

In the end, Sciberus deployed a content management system that was centrally located on LCS’s servers.  The server administrators were able to control the site and all users in one database.  Also, the administrators were able to give accounts to key personnel to manage the site, including the superintendent.  Furthermore, a system wide calendar for events that parents, staff, and students couples visit for the latest information was implemented in the school system.

The system consisted of the following features:

  • CMS
  • Interactive Calendar
  • RSS Feeds
  • Board Meeting Minutes and Documents
  • Centralized DB and Backup
  • SSL intergration
  • User Management

Implementing the new site that was developed by Sciberus allowed LSC’s staff members to more effectively communicate with faculty, staff and students, while removing many of the management hurdles that they previously faced.
